Taking the basic concept of Monopoly -- players strategically use fake money to buy properties on a game board and profit from opponents who pay as they land on them -- Darkeopoly puts a local spin on the popular Hasbro board game: All of the spaces on the board are unique Darke County businesses, organizations and landmarks.
The Arcanum A Sharp Music Boosters, an organization dedicated to supporting music education in the Arcanum-Butler School District, is hosting the 2013 First Edition Darkeopoly board game. Funds raised by the group are used in the purchase of musical instruments, college scholarships, music contest entrance fees, educational travel and uniforms. Most recently the group has supported the purchase of new uniforms, the marching band’s travel to march in the Orlando Disney Parade, and the purchase of new sousaphones to replace the districts 30 year old ones.
Custom game board versions of Monopoly called "Your Town"-Opoly are created by Pride Distributors Inc. of Farmington Hills, Michigan. Pride Distributors, Inc., developed the 'Your Town-opoly' program as a fundraiser for community organizations more than ten years ago.
The Arcanum A Sharp Music Boosters have a limited number of games to be sold for $25 each at the Annie Oakley Days Celebrations on July 27, in front of Younique’s and at the Great Darke County Fair at the Arcanum A Sharp Hamburger Stand located near the horseshoe pits and putt-putt on the fair grounds. The project has received terrific support and the games are expected to sell out quickly. Contact Lisa Diemler at email@example.com with any questions.
