GREENVILLE--The Butterflies Junior Garden Club started their 2013 gardening year on March 18th when they welcomed new members Brianna Fellers, Saige Fellers, and Audrey Allread.
Roll call was answered to “what will be in your Easter basket?” The majority was hoping for candy.
The junior garden club is in charge of name tags for the upcoming Ohio Association of Garden Clubs regional meeting to be held on April 22 at the Turtle Creek Restaurant in Greenville.
Arbor Day chairperson, Meg Rehmert, will be assisting the Ladybug Garden Club in planting a tree for Arbor Day in April.
Upcoming programs for the club will be a field trip to Miller Flowers of Greenville and a walk in the woods identifying wildflowers and natural items that could be used in floral designs. June will be the club’s workshop preparing entries for the Great Darke County fair flower show. The club will be touring the gardens of Mackenzie Slade and Karlee Lennen when Kim Cromwell will provide a program on horticulture tips such as round form, spray and spike; good entries for fair, and grooming the flowers.
The club will participate in the Gathering at the Garst on July 27 and 28 at the Garst Museum.
Projects the club will be working on for the fair flower show is a necklace made with some natural materials, a plaque in the class entitled Ocean Reef, a dried tussie mussie and a pressed flower picture. Functional table settings will be in the fair schedule as well as a challenge design class, still life design, a synergistic class and a fresh design class using a gourd as the container.
A program on silk tie Easter eggs was given by Ladybug Garden Club member Cathy Detrick.
