Tri-Village fourth graders make Valentine’s for VA’s veterans

NEW MADISON – Recently, all three fourth grade classes at Tri-Village Elementary School had a heartwarming experience under the sponsorship of American Legion Auxiliary Unit #245, New Madison, as they made Valentine’s for the veterans in the VA Hospital of Dayton. Joan and Marian Eley, children and youth co-chairmen, along with Pat Hoover and Harold Hoover, veteran, visited each classroom leading a discussion about veterans and distributing colored paper, stickers, glue and various art supplies. Students used their lively imaginations and artistic talent to make colorful cards, which will be forwarded to the hospital.

This is one of several initiatives used by teachers to demonstrate community service in action to students. Other areas of the curriculum benefitting from this project are letter writing, penmanship, social studies, history, art and spelling.

Building awareness and showing heartfelt appreciation to veterans at the VA Hospital is an ongoing project of Auxiliary Unit #245.

Joan Eley praises Karsi Sprowl’s patriotic Valentine.
