Ansonia UM Food Pantry helps nearly 300 people in 2012

ANSONIA – The Ansonia United Methodist Church Food Pantry is supported through church and private donations, others churches, 4-H groups, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Ansonia School, Ladies Auxiliary of the Ansonia American Legion and other groups. Without their help, this ministry wouldn’t be possible.

The pantry services the northern part of Darke County and do not turn anyone away that is in need of help. Persons are eligible for groceries every two months. The bags of groceries one receives is determined by the number of family members per household. They give a $20 voucher for M&M Petrol in Ansonia. There, the people can buy perishable food, such as milk, meats, bread, etc.

In 2012, they helped 276 family members with 226 bags of groceries and wrote $1,880 in vouchers. In January 2013, they have helped 55 family members with 43 bags of groceries and $380 in vouchers.

If you would like to help with donations, contact Carolyn Newbauer, 337-1835.

The Food Pantry is open by appointment only; no walk-ins are accepted. Call the church, 337-5781, for more information or to make an appointment.
