Kasich taps Mehaffie to fill State Board of Education seat

COLUMBUS –Governor John R. Kasich has appointed Darryl D. Mehaffie, of Greenville, to the State Board of Education. Mehaffie is filling the remaining two-years on a four-year term vacated by Dennis Shelton, an at-large member from Delaware who resigned in September. Mehaffie’s term will end on Dec. 31, 2014.

Mehaffie is a retired fifth- and sixth-grade teacher for Northmont City Schools, Englewood. He retired in 1996. He now serves as chairman of the Edison Community College board of trustees in Piqua and as education chairman for incoming Ohio Senate President Keith Faber. He has also served as finance chairman for U.S. House Speaker John Boehner’s campaign. Mehaffie’s involvement with Republican politics includes being elected as State Committeeman for the Republican Party.

Mehaffie will serve as one of eight appointed members on the board. Eleven others are elected to represent regions of the state. All serve four-year terms.
