Beagle announces scholarship program

COLUMBUS– State Senator Bill Beagle (R–Tipp City), the recently appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Workforce & Economic Development, announced the Ohio Association of Career Colleges and Schools is now taking applications for the 2013 Legislative Scholarship Program. The program offers over 400 scholarship opportunities valued at more than $1.6 million to graduating high school seniors in Ohio.

The scholarships are designed to assist with tuition costs for certificate completion programs as well as associate and bachelor degree programs from the 52 participating Ohio career schools. The program’s objective is to prepare students with the education and training necessary to obtain careers in Ohio’s growing industries and businesses.

“In a time where most jobs require some form of post-secondary education, it’s critical for students to adequately prepare for the workforce,” Beagle said. “This scholarship program provides an excellent opportunity for students to obtain the skills needed to launch a successful career.”

To apply for the scholarship, each applicant must obtain the nomination from a member of the Ohio General Assembly. Nomination forms can be obtained from high school guidance counselors. Completed forms must be submitted to the legislator’s office along with a statement of the student’s current GPA and a short personal essay expressing why the student should be nominated for the program. Final scholarship applications must also include two letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, employers or others.
