Vectren gives to DCCA’s arts program

GREENVILLE – Vectren Foundation recently donated funds to sponsor Darke County Center for the Arts’ 2012-2013 Arts in Education program. According to DCCA Executive Director Julie Strait, “DCCA greatly appreciates Vectren’s continued, generous support of the Arts, enabling the fulfillment of our mission to bring cultural enrichment to the children of our community.” Strait continued, “Vectren’s commitment to supporting the communities they serve encourages our efforts to enhance the lives of children and youth in our rural community through the Arts.”

With Vectren’s support, DCCA and Darke County Schools present performing artists to students at all grade levels in Darke County Schools during the school year. The season opened with TheatreworksUSA presenting the story of Anne Frank to Jr. High school students through interactive media on Oct. 4 and 5. Jonathan Kingham and Ryan Shea Smith taught High School students the art of Freestyle Music Writing the week of November 12. Still to come in the series is Eisenhower Dance Company’s “Kids ‘n Motion” program the week of Feb. 25, inspiring students in grades four through six to learn, create, and enjoy dance. KidPower’s “Operation Lunch Line” will take place the week of March 4 with a musical, interactive 3-D program for students in grades K-3, encouraging children to develop the knowledge, skills, and behavior necessary to feel great by balancing food and movement.

DCCA volunteers escort the artists to all schools in a schedule coordinated by the Darke County Education office and Greenville City Schools, with the exception of the Jr. High School program where students are bused to St. Clair Memorial Hall in Greenville.
