Special events at the Bradford Public Library

BRADFORD--The Bradford Public Library and the Bradford Historical Society are pleased to present the program “Forgotten Communities of Miami County” by former Miami County Engineer, Doug Christian on Nov. 19, 7 p.m.

Christian will be exploring the many tiny communities which once were very prosperous, but due to changing transportation needs declined in size and eventually became abandoned. In addition to his talk, he will be displaying a number of pictures from these former communities on an interactive whiteboard. Twenty of these former villages will be discussed and historical perspectives given. Refreshments will be served! This program will be very entertaining for all of the history buffs in the area!

A number of handcrafted Old World Santas, created by local artist Ginger Godfrey, are on display now through the middle of December. Each Ol’ World Santa is individually hand sculptured and designed by Ginger. The Santa attire is designed by using vintage cloths such as quilts, satins, velvets, furs, etc. Also, woven onto the clothing are family heirlooms fashioned uniquely for each individual Santa.

Two special activities are being held Dec. 8 at the Library – the annual Cookie Exchange and a special book signing by local author Elaine R. Barker.

The Annual Cookie Exchange, a big event for many in the area, begins at 11 a.m. and lasts until all the cookies are gone. Each person brings four-dozen cookies and the recipe for the cookie on a 3 x 5 card. Each will then leave with four dozen mixed varieties of cookies and a recipe book.

Barker has just published her children’s book, Robbie & Puffer Take a Trip, with beautiful illustrations by Elaine and Sarah Standley. This book is a must for children during this special season of the year and perfect for gifts. Mrs. Barker teaches about migration, wildlife and parental love during Robbie and Puffer’s early lives. Come anytime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., to meet author, Elaine Barker and have her sign your own personal copy!

Getting ready to own an Electronic Reader? Have you put an electronic reader on your Christmas list? Do you want to know how to use one before your open the package? If so, then you want to attend a Pre-Holiday Electronic Reader Party on Dec. 13, 6 p.m. There will be several e-readers to try out or you can bring one along! Cherie Roeth will be demonstrating how to down-load free library e-books and some of the other electronic reader features. For information about the content of the presentation, contact Cherie, 448-2612.

During the month of October, the library’s display case was filled with Anna Lee hand-painted dolls from the collections of Cindi Hocker and Linda Moore. The dolls represented many holidays throughout the year and are collector items. Each month, there is a different display or collection from area residents. Come in to the library’s charming atmosphere and enjoy the displays.

Please note, the Bradford Public Library will be closed Nov. 22, but will reopen with regular hours on Nov. 23.
