GREENVILLE--Winning the grand prize in the Community Blood Center (CBC) “Darke County Days” blood drive wasn’t just a nice surprise for Diane Richard of Pitsburg, it was a stroke of luck for both her husband Clarence and their seven-month old grandson.
Diane and Clarence both made their regular donations on Sept. 18 at the Gordon United Methodist Church blood drive. Anyone who registered to donate at a Darke County blood drive Sept. 1-Oct. 31 was automatically entered into the drawing to win a leather Lay-Z-boy recliner, a $1,000 value, from campaign sponsor Francis Furniture in Greenville.
“I didn’t even know there was a contest,” said Diane. “When Dana (CBC Rep. Dana Puterbaugh) called me it was a shock!”
“Everybody can use a recliner,” said Francis Furniture Manager Kevin Romer. “I think doing something like this is a great way to do something good for the community.”
It’s definitely been good for the Richard household. Francis gave Diane a choice of recliners in three different colors. She chose a dark brown. You could say she hasn’t seen it since.
“I can’t get my husband out of it!” said Diane. “He found out it rocks, and we have a seven-month old grandson who we take care of while his mother is at work. So grandpa rocks him!”
