GREENVILLE – The first Friday of August will bring another 10 live music performances to different areas in the historic downtown district. This month includes a mini concert on the Courthouse Lawn by local classic rock band, The Dick Helman Trio along with Garcia & Scott from Nashville, TN as the main performance from 8:30-11 p.m. Rob Garrett, event organizer for this First Fridays, states Garcia and Scott as well as The Dick Helman Trio are great bands that are energetic and engaging. The whole line up for the evening is a great one!" Additional performers for the evening comprise of Frohna & Warner, Singing for Sanity, Cinder Home, Tim Weaver, Rise Above, The Midwest Revival, Joe Helfrick, and student performances at The Workshop Learning Center.

Various businesses will be hosting the artists including Montage Café, Brendas Beanery, The Coffee Pot, Readmores Hallmark, The A&B Coffee & Cake Co., Bread of Life Christian Bookstore, Sweet Annies Cabin. In addition many more businesses will be open late offering a great time in downtown to stroll around and enjoy the summer evening.

In addition to live music many businesses will be offering special First Fridays activities. Greenville Public Library will be hosting Lunch on the Lawn from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m., KitchenAid Experience collaborates with the Downtown Greenville Farmers' Market to provide a cooking demonstration with market vendor Rhoadeside Noodles & More. The demonstration begins at 6:30 p.m., at KitchenAid Experience and First Congregational Christian Church hosts a free ice cream social for 'First Friday' goers on West 5th Street from 6-9 p.m.

First Fridays aims to bring people downtown during evening hours to enjoy activities, demonstrations, food and music in a beautiful historic setting.

Events to Remember

Chicken BBQ – The first of two annual chicken BBQ's sponsored for the benefit of the New Madison Volunteer Fire Dept. by the New Madison Firebelles will be held at the firehouse on June 1, 11 a.m. until sold out. Cost for adults-$7, child's meal-$5, half chicken-$4. Eat in or carry out. No phone orders or deliveries. All proceeds go to help defray the cost of equipment, and items for the New Madison Volunteer Fire Department.

Ansonia Garage Sales – The Ansonia Community Garage Sales will be June 6-8, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are several listings on the map, which will be available at all area businesses by June 4. If you would like a map emailed to you, contact Betty Burnfield, 337-4883.

New Madison Garage Sales – The New Madison Community Garage Sales will be held May 30-31 and June 1. No permit is required during these dates. Persons wanting to be listed on the flier should call 996-0200. Leave address, dates and times of the sale.

Arcanum Meetings - The following meetings have been scheduled for the Village of Arcanum:May 28 – Council Meeting, 7 p.m., City Building; June 3 – Utility Meeting, 4:30 p.m., City Building

Memorial Day Info - Community Action Partnership of Greater Dayton/Darke County will be closed May 27, in honor of Memorial Day. This includes the Metropolitan Housing Authority. Regular hours will resume May 28.

CAP Community Transportation will be in operation for those who need service on May 27. Reservations should be made by May 24 for transportation by calling 547-9129.

GHS Class of 1969 - The Greenville Class of 1969 will hold its annual mini-reunion on Aug. 17, 2-4 p.m. at the Elks Lounge on Third and Sycamore, Greenville. Please park in the Elks back parking lot and enter through the back door. The class will begin planning for its 45th reunion on June 15 at 1:30 p.m. at the Maid-Rite shelter house. Class members should plan to attend the June 15 meeting if they wish to voice their opinions concerning the location and type of reunion for 2014. Help is needed to contact class members for the large event. For more information, contact Debby Sodders at 548-7951. All class members are welcome on both dates.

Genealogical Society – The Darke County Genealogical Society, Inc. is holding its annual picnic on June 6, 5:30 p.m., in the Greenville City Park, at the same shelter that has been used in the past. Bring food to share and your tableware and come to have a good time.

Alumni Banquet - The 2013 Westmont, Hollansburg and Palestine Alumni Banquet will be held June 15 at the Golden Eagle Christian Center in Palestine. The time to arrive is 4 p.m. with dinner served at 5 p.m. The theme this year is “An Italian Experience.” Everyone is welcome that attended Westmont, Hollansburg, and Palestine; even if you did not graduate from there.
