GREENVILLE – Darke County residents have relied on The Early Bird
for community news, events and business advertisements since 1968. The newspaper
is pleased to announce the tradition will continue for many years to come under
new ownership, Brothers Publishing, Co. Greenville
natives Fred Foutz and Keith Foutz have purchased the company and admit their
return to the area is like coming home. Keith noted he had sent an email annually
to Carol Ball for the past 10 or 11 years expressing an interest in purchasing
the company.
Fred will return to Darke County and serve as president and
publisher of the company. Keith is expected to return in a year or two. Both
are excited about the challenge of taking The Early Bird and Blue Bag Media to
new heights. Through both publications, the Foutz brothers want the company to
have a more dominate presence in the community. Fred said, “We want to be
relevant to the people in the community and to the people we serve.”
Even with newspapers around the country struggling, both
brothers believe the role of the local newspaper continues to be relevant and
feel that newspapers are going to be around and continue to thrive for a long
time.
The new owners bring nearly 80 years of experience to The Early
Bird and Blue Bag Media.
