“iFOCUS on Saving Lives” Campaign is heating up

DARKE COUNTY--The first day of summer arrives June 20 and the spicy hot “race red” 2012 Ford Focus – the prize for one lucky donor in the “iFocus on Saving Lives” summer blood drive campaign - has arrived at Community Blood Center (CBC) headquarters in downtown Dayton.

The goal of the “iFocus on Saving Lives” campaign is to encourage donors to stay focused on the importance of giving blood during the challenging summer months. Everyone age 18 or older who registers to donate at any CBC branch or mobile blood drive now through Sept. 1 is automatically entered in the drawing to win the 2012 Ford Focus.

This is the final week for donors to take home the red, white and blue “iFocus, iChange Local Lives, the Power is in Your Hands” t-shirt. It is free to anyone who registers to donate now through Saturday, June 23 at any CBC branch or mobile blood drive.

Technology is making it faster and more convenient than ever to schedule your next blood donation. Just use your computer or smart phone to make an appointment online at www.DonorTime.com. You can also schedule your next appointment using your mobile device to scan the DonorTime QR code. Following are upcoming blood drives in Darke County:

June 18: Bradford High School, 750 Railroad Ave., Bradford, 2:30 – 6:30 p.m., sponsored by Bradford High School, open to the community, appointments encouraged.

June 21: Eldora Speedway Ballroom, 13929 State Route 118, New Weston, 2:30 – 6:30 p.m., Race Ticket Winners to be drawn every ½ hour plus Grand Prize Drawings, sponsored by Eldora Speedway, open to the community, appointments encouraged.

Holiday closing – In honor and recognition of Memorial Day, the Greenville Transit will be closed on May 27.

PERDC - Public Employee Retirees of Darke County will be meeting at the VFW on Ohio Street, June 3, at 11:30 a.m. The speaker will be Janie Chrisman, Metropolitan Housing Director. For reservations, call: Helen at 548-4514.

Chicken BBQ – The first of two annual chicken BBQ's sponsored for the benefit of the New Madison Volunteer Fire Dept. by the New Madison Firebelles will be held at the firehouse on June 1, 11 a.m. until sold out. Cost for adults-$7, child's meal-$5, half chicken-$4. Eat in or carry out. No phone orders or deliveries. All proceeds go to help defray the cost of equipment, and items for the New Madison Volunteer Fire Department.

Ansonia Garage Sales – The Ansonia Community Garage Sales will be June 6-8, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are several listings on the map, which will be available at all area businesses by June 4. If you would like a map emailed to you, contact Betty Burnfield, 337-4883.

New Madison Garage Sales – The New Madison Community Garage Sales will be held May 30-31 and June 1. No permit is required during these dates. Persons wanting to be listed on the flier should call 996-0200. Leave address, dates and times of the sale.

Arcanum Meetings - The following meetings have been scheduled for the Village of Arcanum:May 28 – Council Meeting, 7 p.m., City Building; June 3 – Utility Meeting, 4:30 p.m., City Building

Memorial Day Info - Community Action Partnership of Greater Dayton/Darke County will be closed May 27, in honor of Memorial Day. This includes the Metropolitan Housing Authority. Regular hours will resume May 28.

CAP Community Transportation will be in operation for those who need service on May 27. Reservations should be made by May 24 for transportation by calling 547-9129.

GHS Class of 1969 - The Greenville Class of 1969 will hold its annual mini-reunion on Aug. 17, 2-4 p.m. at the Elks Lounge on Third and Sycamore, Greenville. Please park in the Elks back parking lot and enter through the back door. The class will begin planning for its 45th reunion on June 15 at 1:30 p.m. at the Maid-Rite shelter house. Class members should plan to attend the June 15 meeting if they wish to voice their opinions concerning the location and type of reunion for 2014. Help is needed to contact class members for the large event. For more information, contact Debby Sodders at 548-7951. All class members are welcome on both dates.

Genealogical Society – The Darke County Genealogical Society, Inc. is holding its annual picnic on June 6, 5:30 p.m., in the Greenville City Park, at the same shelter that has been used in the past. Bring food to share and your tableware and come to have a good time.

Alumni Banquet - The 2013 Westmont, Hollansburg and Palestine Alumni Banquet will be held June 15 at the Golden Eagle Christian Center in Palestine. The time to arrive is 4 p.m. with dinner served at 5 p.m. The theme this year is “An Italian Experience.” Everyone is welcome that attended Westmont, Hollansburg, and Palestine; even if you did not graduate from there.
