GREENVILLE--Nestled among the
fields of West-Central Ohio, Greenville, Ohio, Darke County, is known as the
birthplace of historical events, famous sons and daughters, earnest hard
working individuals and last but not least, the Maid-Rite Sandwich Shoppe.
Functioning as both a local staple and tourist attraction, the “Maid-Rite” is
an iconic part of the community. With a history that spans several generations
it is only fitting that the Maid-Rite has partnered with the 2012 Gathering at
Garst Committee to honor the area’s heritage with a living history encampment.
This robust addition to the
Gathering at Garst event provides a timeline of participants portraying both
military and civilian life ranging from the French and Indian War era to the
American Civil War. The living history encampment will include The First Mad
River Light Artillery Cannon Brigade, The Fourth Indiana Light Artillery Civil
War Group, colonial era merchants and tradesmen, settlers, pioneers and
muzzleloaders.
To experience the Living History
Encampment for yourself, come to the Gathering at Garst on July 28 (10am-9pm) and July 29 (11am-4pm). The Gathering at Garst is
held on the grounds of the Garst Museum in Greenville, Ohio.
For more information, visit
the Gathering’s Facebook page and website (www.gatheringatgarst.com) to learn
more about the event or about participating as a vendor during this FREE
community event.
