5th annual Ohio State Championship Pull to be held at Fairgrounds

GREENVILLE--The Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League is proud to sanction the 5^thAnnual Ohio State Championship Pull presented by Bayer Crop Science on June 23 at the Great Darke County Fairgrounds in Greenville. Proceeds from this pull are donated to JDRF for all kids diagnosed with juvenile diabetes.

Gates open at 3:30 p.m. to the grandstand and pits, with the pull starting at 6:30pm. Visitors are encouraged to take the opportunity to see these awesome machines up close and talk to the drivers.

Currently slated for the fifth annual event are five PPL classes on two pulling tracks, including the E3 Super Modified tractors, MAC Trailer Unlimited Super Stocks, Optima Batteries 2WD Trucks, Premier Crop Insurance Pro Stocks and the Air Dog Hot Rod Semis.

For a third year in a row a Kiddie Tractor Pull will be held, starting at 4 p.m., for ages 4-10, with signups in front of the grandstands.

The Barga Family has been involved in tractor pulling for nearly 50 years and is very excited for another great tractor & truck pull at their new location the Great Darke County Fairgrounds. The benefit pull will continue its partnership with Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Greater Dayton (JDRF) by donating a portion of the proceeds to JDRF. The Barga Family has three children in one family who are diagnosed with juvenile diabetes.

“We truly believe this event is good for Darke County and most importantly JDRF,” said Ron Barga. “Thus far we have donated over $40,000 to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which we couldn’t have done without the support of everyone involved.”

Tickets are $15 per adult for general admission in the grandstands, $20 per adult for VIP pit passes and all children 12 and under are free. Also, there are FREE $5 off coupons available at local participating Dollar General stores.

Events to Remember

Board of Elections – The Darke County Board of Elections will be closing at noon on June 25 to attend the Secretary of State's 2013 Summer Conference and Trade Show in Columbus. The office will be closed though June 27 and will reopen on June 28, 8:30 a.m.

LEPC meeting - The Darke County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) will meet on June 18, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the Darke County EMA, 5183 County Home Rd. All meetings are open for public attendance.

Arcanum BOE - The Arcanum-Butler local Board of Education will hold its regular board of education meeting on the third Thursday, June 20, 2013, at 7 p.m. in the Board of Education office.

VHS class reunion – The Versailles High School Class of 1968 is celebrating its 45th year reunion on June 22, at the Veteran’s Memorial Building, 106 South Center St., Versailles. A social hour will begin at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m. A group photo will be taken at 7 p.m. If you have not submitted your RSVP and would like to attend, contact Cyndi Bey, 526-3313.

Chicken Noodle Dinner – Joan’s Kids Relay Team will be having a chicken noodle dinner June 18 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Bradford Community Club on Miami Avenue. For carry-outs, please call Debbie at 448-2845.

Bradford BOE – The Bradford Exempted Village School District Board of Education will meet in regular session, 6:30 p.m., on June 19, room 404. The public is welcome to attend.

Versailles BOE – The regular June and July Versailles Board of Education meetings for the dates and times have changed. The meetings will now be June 26, 7 a.m., and July 17, 7 a.m., at the board office.

FM Class of 73 – Franklin Monroe Class of 1973 will be celebrating its 40th year reunion on July 20, 2013. It will be at the Pitsburg Town Hall (Firehouse), 3 p.m. All attendees are asked to bring a dish to share. Meat, cheese, buns, drinks, and table service will be provided. GHS Class of 1969 - The Greenville Class of 1969 will hold its annual mini-reunion on Aug. 17, 2-4 p.m. at the Elks Lounge on Third and Sycamore, Greenville. Please park in the Elks back parking lot and enter through the back door. The class will begin planning for its 45th reunion on June 15 at 1:30 p.m. at the Maid-Rite shelter house. Class members should plan to attend the June 15 meeting if they wish to voice their opinions concerning the location and type of reunion for 2014. Alumni Banquet - The 2013 Westmont, Hollansburg and Palestine Alumni Banquet will be held June 15 at the Golden Eagle Christian Center in Palestine. The time to arrive is 4 p.m. with dinner served at 5 p.m. The theme this year is “An Italian Experience.” Everyone is welcome that attended Westmont, Hollansburg, and Palestine; even if you did not graduate from there.
