United Way raises $379,374.27 in campaign

GREENVILLE – The board of directors and staff at Darke County United Way announced it exceeded its fundraising goal for the fall 2011-2012 campaign by raising $379,374.27, 108% of their $350,000 goal. “This county deserves a round of applause for pulling together in a time of financial instability for many in our community and making it a priority to give to United Way providing a hopeful future for our fellow residents.  So many individuals, retirees, and companies support the Darke County United Way’s campaign each year both with monetary support and donating their time and talent to our organization. It is because of you, our loyal supporters who believe in our mission to increase the capacity to take care of one another in this county, that we can celebrate this accomplishment of meeting and exceeding our fundraising goal and being able to continue serving over 17,000 residents in their time of need,” stated Lauren Henry, Executive Director.
She continued, “You never know when your life may be vulnerable and you may need these programs for your own family’s needs.  With loyal supporters, we can be there to help.  Thank you Darke County!”
Darke County United Way extended a big thank you to the community as this success is directly due to the fact that Darke County has great residents who are charitable and excited to help one another especially in times of financial hardship.  This community truly Lives United to help neighbors in need.  In 2011, United Way programs affected the lives of 17,135 Darke County residents.  Their partner programs strengthen the education, health, and stability of our brothers and sisters in the community.  Children have safe places to learn, be active, and work on homework.  Children have school supplies and the tools to be successful in school.  Literacy programs are encouraging early childhood reading.  Seniors who may need just a little help to stay safely in their homes have hot, nutritious meals delivered to them daily, and friendly faces to help with chores around their homes.  Many seniors need transportation to their out-of-town medical appointments, this community makes it possible for them to keep these appointments and get to them safely to stay healthy.  These are just a few small examples of how Darke County bands together to Live United, and Darke County United Way is proud to be the organization that supports our partners who bring these programs to our residents through your support.
Darke County United Way also announced the 2012 partner programs that will serve the community strengthening loved ones’ health, education, and stability to continue to make the community great and create a brighter future for kids, families, neighbors, co-workers and seniors.  Partner programs working to strengthen education in the community include Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Club, Council on Rural Services (CORS) – Achievement Center for Educational Success, CORS-Gateway Youth Programs, Darke County Extension 4-H, Miami Valley Boy Scouts Council, Dolly Parton Imagination Library, and Stuff A Bus Day of Caring.
