GREENVILLE – If you need help paying for prescriptions this discount card may be able to help. Those who do not have health insurance, or need medicine not covered by their insurance plan, need to pick up the FamilyWize prescription drug discount card distributed by Darke County United Way. The cards help residents save money on prescription costs. Darke County United Way is providing these cards free-of-charge to everyone in our community. There are no age restrictions, income restrictions, or a limit on how many times you can use the card.
Since this program began in Darke County in 2008, Darke County residents have made 14,761 claims with the card and have saved a total of $156,190.11, an average of $39,000/year saved by the using the Familywize card. Individually, savings vary, but an individual claim averages between 10- and 25-percent savings. If you have Internet access you can go to www.FamilyWize.org to print a card, look up drug prices, and get a list of participating pharmacies.
FamilyWize cards can be obtained at Darke County United Way by calling, 547-1272, or at Community Action Partnership, Department of Health, Job and Family Services, Community Unity, Grace Resurrection Community Center, Comprehensive Health Network, & Family Health.
FamilyWize cards are accepted at CVS, Kaup Pharmacy, Kmart, Kroger's, Medicine & More, Walgreens, and Walmart. Most pharmacies here and throughout the United States accept the FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards.
“It’s truly amazing what we can accomplish when we all work together. So many people and organizations have joined together to make this possible,” said Lauren Henry, Executive Director of Darke County United Way. “We invite any area organizations to contact us for a supply of cards, as well as any local business to get cards for their employees and their families who may benefit from this program.”
“We hope everyone in the community will take the time to thank their pharmacist, and everyone else involved for the difference they are making in the lives of so many people in the community,” said Dan Barnes, Co-Chair of the FamilyWize Community Service Partnership. The participating pharmacies in the community have agreed voluntarily to accept the FamilyWize cards and provide these savings to people in need. Brown Printing, Independent Graphics and Rob-Win Press of greater Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania donate the printing for the cards, Sappi Fine Paper provides some of the paper, FedEx Express donates the shipping of the cards and the pharmacy benefit manager provides a portion of the processing fee to cover the administrative costs. Darke County United Way is coordinating the distribution of the cards locally.
