DARKE COUNTY—The third annual Bunco 4 Boobies took place March 18
and it was another great success. More than 250 women and men went to the
Eagles in Greenville to “Roll for a Cure” and raise money for the fight against
Breast Cancer.
The event all began three years ago, when a group of 16 Arcanum
women started playing Bunco for ‘girl’s night out.’ Group member Kelly Fourman
was diagnosed with cancer and soon the others decided to have a fundraiser to
help Fourman and her family. “I had good insurance,” said Fourman, “so I told
them to donate to the Cancer Association of Darke County.”
That first year, after giving Fourman a small amount, $3,500 was
donated to CADC. The following year, attendance at the Bunco 4 Boobies
fundraiser was about the same as the first year, however, $7,000 was raised and
donated to CADC.
This year, another member of the group was diagnosed with cancer
and the girls “went all out” managing to raise enough to donate $10,000 to CADC
as well as additional donations to several local breast cancer patients.
This year Christine Sparks and Frank Ullmer, a brother and sister
who lost their mother, Betty Sparks, to breast cancer many years ago, won the
Best Dressed prize for ‘rocking out’ in their pink outfit.
The event was also a time to remember and honor those family
members and friends who have lost their lives to cancer or are still in the
middle of their fight.
Between each round of
ruling dice and playing the game, donated items from the following 2012 event
sponsors were given to “A Cup” and “DD Cup” raffle winners: Dayton Freight
